It would be underpowered for heavy concrete work (such as busting up a driveway or walkway), but for remodeling it is great. Loading and unloading the bits is pretty easy once you figure out the technique; bits stay put and can be angled at numerous angles to the work and unit. It basically makes mince meat of these materials and in a precise way too. The scraping bit has been especially useful for chipping away floor tiles and residue, wall tiles, and mortar. This is not an industrial strength tool, but it will chip away household tile, bricks, mortar residue, and other nasty stuff that one encounters in a household remodeling job. It's a small beast looking for work to do. Not too noisy (although you'll want ear and eye protection). Plenty of power for household projects.
Through trial and error,I discovered that the unit only chips if the tip of the bit is pressed firmly against the work material (my bad). It's fun to use and has great action in chipping away hard materials. I am a DIYer but am serious about my tools, and this is a really good one--what you'd expect from Bosch. This can be very convenient depending on the project at hand. Sorry that I don't have more projects on which to use it. Does not overheat and needs very little care. I probably should have read the instructions more carefully. If you like fun tools, have a need for this tool, and don't mind spending some serious bucks, then this is a great tool to have in your bag. Good carrying case and lubrication included along with two Bosch bits as I recall (scraper bit and pointed bit).
The stones came off relatively easy with a hammer and chisel but the mortar was next to impossible to remove. Too much fun. You can remove material with almost pinpoint accuracy. Bits pop in and release easily. This tool is solid and had the entire job completed in 4 hours. Down to the cinder block and ready to reface. We bought a house that had an 8 foot floor to ceiling huge fake stone fireplace that we thought was hideous. I bought chisels, not knowing and didn't need them.
I was nervous having never done this before. Comes with 2 chisels. If you're like me, relax, spend the money and enjoy one of the best tools you'll ever buy. Took up a tile entry way in about 2 minutes. I worked for a day and covered maybe 2 sq ft. Remember to grease them, you don't want one to get stuck on you.
Removed what I wanted to without hurting the cinder block behind it. I wish I had more things to destroy. Sharp chisels and this tool with handle whatever you want to throw at it. Use breathing and eye protection.
I was confused at first about how to put things together and use the tool, but within minutes out of the box (and reading instructions) I had it tearing up tile faster than I could believe. This was my first Amazon purchase and I reviewed this tool and its competitors from several sites. I tend to push tools (among other things) to their upper limits of performance and I count on solid performance. Amazon provided all the details I could want and this tool appeared to be exactly what I needed for the price. I have always enjoyed Bosch quality tools and this one is no different. This tool does what it says. Very well.
this tool works better than the makita tool of similar operation. i am very pleased with them since i bought 2 to take off tile and the like and it works great- faster then the makita since it has 3500 bpm and the makita has only 3200 bpm. love it recommend it.
I purchased this smaller electric hammer to use for light masonry operations. The tool makes you capable of achieving clean, non destructive openings or removals on you masonry work. I found it works best for precision detailing such as removing individual tiles and bricks with mortar. Best, is that it is not as destructive as a larger electric hammer, but more like using a hammer and chisel for fine chisel work. This Bosch electric hammer provides everything you will require for light work with the quality you expect from a Bosch tool. This one meets all of my exceptions and I am sure yours too.
